Termite Pre-Treatment for New Construction in Virginia
Chemical termite pre-treatment to Division 31 specifications for public and commercial construction projects.
Pre-treatment done to spec
Ives Contracting provides pre-construction termite treatment for prime contractors and public owners across all of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. We apply soil treatments to Division 31 (Earthwork) specifications before slabs and foundations are placed, and provide the documentation your closeout requires.
Virginia’s Uniform Statewide Building Code generally requires termite protection for new buildings, and soil pre-treatment before the slab is poured is the most common way projects meet it. As part of our pest management services, we handle that requirement for general contractors, builders and public owners.
Termite pre-treatment has to happen at the right point in the schedule, after grading and before the vapor barrier and pour. We coordinate with your superintendent so treatment is done on time and does not hold up the slab.
Treatments are performed under our Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) registration.
Virginia code requirements
What the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and VDACS expect on new construction.
Residential: VRC Section R318
The Virginia Residential Code requires protection against subterranean termites on new homes. Chemical termiticide soil treatment under Section R318.2 is the most common method used to meet it.
Commercial: VCC Section 2304.12
The Virginia Construction Code, Chapter 23, sets protection against decay and termites for wood in commercial and public buildings, including where treated or naturally durable wood is required.
Licensed firm & certified applicator
VDACS requires the treating company to hold a Virginia pesticide business license and the technician to hold a VDACS-issued certified applicator certificate.
Label application rates
Typical termiticide labels call for 1 gallon of finished solution per 10 square feet under slabs and 4 gallons per 10 linear feet along foundation walls. We apply to label and record the quantities.
HUD-NPCA-99-A
For FHA- and VA-financed homes, the builder provides form HUD-NPCA-99-A, the Subterranean Termite Protection Builder’s Guarantee. We supply the treatment records it relies on.
Timing on site
Treatment goes down after final grade and before the vapor barrier and pour, while the soil is still accessible. We schedule it around your superintendent.
Requirements vary by project, jurisdiction and code edition. Your building official and project specifications control; we treat to both.
