Keep facilities working and inspection-ready

Ives Contracting maintains vegetation on stormwater ponds and BMP facilities across Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Overgrown slopes, trees on embankments and cattails or phragmites choking the edges can weaken structures, block outfalls and put a facility out of compliance.

We mow slopes and embankments, cut back brush and woody growth, and spray around ponds and along banks. Herbicide work is done by licensed applicators who are Ives employees, not subcontractors, with products and methods chosen for work near water. Every application is recorded and kept on file for three years, as state regulations require.

When a facility needs more than vegetation work, our civil crews handle sediment removal, outfall repair and regrading, so one contractor covers the whole facility.

How a maintenance program works

  • Walk each facility and note slopes, embankments, edges and outfalls
  • Set mowing and treatment cycles for the growing season
  • Remove woody growth from embankments and access paths
  • Spray around ponds and along banks to keep edges under control
  • One price per facility, so annual budgets are set up front

Common questions

What stormwater facilities do you maintain?

Wet and dry ponds, detention and retention basins, dam embankments, bioretention areas, swales, inlets and outfalls across Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

Can you control phragmites in stormwater ponds?

Yes. Phragmites is one of the most common problems on pond edges and banks. We cut and spray it around the pond over multiple seasons until the stand is under control, then keep it in check as part of the annual program.

Do you spray around ponds?

Yes. Our licensed applicators, who are Ives employees, treat vegetation around ponds and along banks using products and methods chosen for work near water. Every application is recorded and kept on file for three years.

Why remove trees and brush from embankments?

Woody growth on embankments can weaken them and hide problems like erosion or seepage. Keeping embankments mowed and clear makes facilities easier to inspect and maintain.

Can you set up an annual program?

Yes. We schedule mowing and treatments across the growing season and price each facility up front, so property managers and localities can budget the full year.

Where do you provide stormwater vegetation maintenance?

Statewide across Virginia and in northeastern North Carolina, from our base in Virginia Beach.

Have ponds that need
a maintenance plan?

Send us the facility list. We will walk them and price an annual program for each.
