Bring it in or haul it out

Most site work moves dirt in two directions. Pads, trenches and low areas need fill brought in, and excavation, utility work and grading leave spoils that have to go somewhere. Ives Contracting handles both, with our own quad-axle dump trucks and as many additional trucks as the job needs.

We deliver fill dirt for building pads, backfill, grading and drainage work, and we export excavated soil, spoils and clearing debris to permitted disposal and recycling sites. Load tickets come with every haul, so your quantities and invoices line up.

Our hauling area covers Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg and the rest of Hampton Roads, plus northeastern North Carolina.

Common questions

How is fill dirt and export hauling priced?

By the hour, by the ton or by the yard, depending on the job. Export pricing depends on where the material goes, so we price it once the disposal site is set. Request a quote →

How much fill dirt does a dump truck carry?

A quad-axle, the most common truck in Hampton Roads, carries about 18 cubic yards or roughly 18 to 19 tons depending on the material. Use our load calculator to estimate how many loads you need.

Where does exported dirt go?

To permitted disposal and recycling sites. Clean fill and mixed spoils are handled differently, so tell us what the material is and we will route it to the right place.

Can you keep up with an excavator?

Yes. We schedule the truck count around your loading rate so your excavator is not waiting on trucks.

Do you haul land-clearing debris?

Yes. We haul stumps, brush and other clearing material to permitted disposal and recycling sites.

Moving dirt on your next job?

Send the material, quantity, site and schedule. We will line up the trucks and send a price.
